Michigan State star Isaac Howard has won the top individual honor in all of college hockey.
Howard officially won the 2025 Hobey Baker Award on Friday night. The Hobey Baker Award is annually handed out to the top college hockey player in the country. Howard beat out other two finalists Zeev Buium of Denver and Ryan Leonard of Boston College for the award.
Howard is the first Spartan to win the Hobey Baker Award since Spartans legend goaltender Ryan Miller in 2001. Howard is only the third Spartan to ever win the award, joining Ryan Miller and Kip Miller -- who won his award in 1990.
Howard was the top player on the Spartans this season, leading the team in points (52), goals (26) and assists (26). He was the Big Ten Player of the Year and also earned Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the Spartans to a second straight Big Ten Tournament title.
It was announced this week that Howard will be returning for his senior season at Michigan State after things fell through on a contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He will have the rare opportunity to win back-to-back Hobey Baker Awards -- which has never happened since they began handing out the award in 1981.
And then there were three.
