Moretto: Milan have ‘two big doubts’ regarding signing of defender from Man City

Despite many reports to the contrary, the latest update from Matteo Moretto regarding Kyle Walker’s future suggests a great deal of uncertainty.

Several different sources have suggested that Walker has convinced everyone during his time on loan from Manchester City so far and will be signed on a permanent basis in June.

In truth his performances have not necessarily been outstanding, but his regular 6/10 outings – either side of an injury problem – have steadied a flank that was being systematically targeted under the previous starters.

Nonetheless, with Milan currently heading for no European football at all, big changes are expected in the management which could lead to an alteration in the plans.

Moretto spoke with Fabrizio Romano in a video published on his YouTube channel, and his comments about Walker’s situation were relayed by MilanNews.

“Kyle Walker arrived at Milan in January on a free loan with an option to buy set at 5 million euros. There is a lot of talk about Walker’s future and the fact that the player will remain in the Rossoneri until 2027,” he said.

“He has signed a contract until June, extendable until 2027: everything is already established and set. The player earns 2.5 million euros net in these first few months and then his salary will become 4.5 million. He will become one of the highest paid in the squad.

“What I can tell you today is that, checking and speaking both on the Milan side and the player’s entourage, at the moment the Rossoneri are in a standby mode regarding the permanent signing of the English full-back. At the moment Milan has not yet made a decision.

“The club, beyond the sporting director and coach who will come, are reflecting on the future and performances of Walker. There are two big doubts: the balance between age and salary that he would earn, this makes Milan think.

“The Rossoneri have not actually made a definitive decision yet: at the moment there are not all these certainties of a permanent signing. If he were to be redeemed, City could also have a small percentage of the future resale.”
