As expected, Tuesday has been a busy day for the Michigan State basketball program, as players, fresh off their Elite 8 exit, explore their options and make their decisions for next season. After veteran guard Tre Holloman entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, redshirt freshman Gehrig Normand followed suit and entered the portal.
While Holloman's entry to the portal was a bit more surprising (although I did say I thought he might do that in my article yesterday) Normand's transfer was anticipated for most of the year as he seemed to be buried on the depth chart. Even with Holloman leaving, Normand was expected to be behind Kur Teng to receive minutes at shooting guard.
Normand, who was a 4-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class, couldn't crack the rotation in his first two years with the Spartans. He only played in 13 games this year, all in 'garbage time' minutes, where he only averaged 2.0 minutes per game in the season.
