Lily Hansford arrived in Ames as a 3-point shooter that the Iowa State women’s basketball team was hoping to utilize this past season.
After a long season of shooting struggles, Hansford will try to rediscover her stroke somewhere else.
Hanford, a junior guard, is entering the transfer portal, a source with direct knowledge of the situation confirmed to the Register on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-2 native of Wisconsin appeared in 32 games for Iowa State during the 2024-25 campaign and averaged 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. She shot 20.4% from 3-point range.
Hansford’s numbers were less than she had produced in the past. She was a 3-point shooting specialist at Oregon State the previous last two seasons.
Hansford shot 35.2% from beyond the arc as a freshman and averaged 2.6 points per game.
She averaged 5.1 points per game while shooting better than 45% from 3-point range as a sophomore before coming to Iowa State.
