Man City superstar would be a perfect fit for Real Madrid, claims Villarreal legend
In a recent interview with AS, Villarreal legend Bruno Soriano offered his thoughts on many hot topics, including Julian Alvarez’s controversially disallowed penalty.
The former midfielder also talked about Real Madrid’s midfield woes, especially following the retirement of Toni Kroos last summer.
Bruno Soriano on Kroos
Talking about the impact of Kroos’ retirement, Soriano said Real Madrid could have done more to convince the German to continue.
“As a former midfielder, I see him as irreplaceable. I’ve often wondered if Florentino or Ancelotti couldn’t have pushed the issue more to convince him and prevent him from leaving.
“He used to be the difference-maker, and in the Metropolitano match, he would have been too. He was a tremendous footballer,” he said.
With almost 300 La Liga appearances with Villarreal, Bruno Soriano has witnessed Kroos’ prowess up close and personal and was well aware of his abilities.
Bruno Soriano backs Rodri to be an ideal fit at Real Madrid
With Real Madrid struggling without Kroos, Bruno Soriano believes someone like Rodri could be an ideal fit for Los Blancos.
When asked whether or not the Spanish international is an ideal fit for Real Madrid, Soriano replied, “Of course. Rodri would be a perfect player for Real Madrid.”
However, the former Villarreal midfielder laid out the potential hiccups Real Madrid could face in convincing Manchester City to offload the Spaniard.
“The problem is I don’t see him being able to get away from City. He seems happy there and is highly valued. He’s unique in his position, so Madrid will have to look for someone similar who’s a little below his level,” he pointed out.
It must be noted that Real Madrid fans have generated some form of enmity towards Rodri and Manchester City fans following the Ballon d’Or fiasco last year and this was evident in the Champions League clash between the two sides.
Keeping that in mind, Rodri might not be a very approachable target for Los Blancos.
