Barcelona find themselves once again in the centre of a growing storm, as Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo to fill the void left by Kevin De Bruyne.

According to Fichajes, Pep Guardiola views Olmo as an ideal candidate to take over from the Belgian star, and the English side are believed to be preparing a move worth around £50 million to secure his services.

Guardiola’s admiration and City’s offer

Olmo’s quality has been quite evident. Even this season, where he has faced multiple issues, including registration problems and injuries, he has scored eight goals.

His intelligence on the ball, eye for a pass, and ability to perform under pressure have made him a top target for clubs aiming to reinforce their midfield.

It is no surprise that Guardiola, a manager who appreciates technical finesse and tactical versatility, sees Olmo as someone who could slot seamlessly into Manchester City’s system.

Interestingly, while City might be ready to spend big and rely on Guardiola’s influence to lure Olmo, as they did in winter, Barcelona will not stand back and watch one of their most suitable midfield options leave for England.

Time for Barcelona to step up

For a club in the process of rebuilding under Hansi Flick, Barcelona cannot afford to lose a player like Olmo—especially when he fits the club’s identity so naturally.

His ability to operate both in midfield and out wide makes him a great addition in a team that values tactical flexibility and possession-based football.

Instead of allowing Manchester City to shape their future with the Spaniard, the Catalans are expected to fight the odds, as they have done in the past, and keep him within the roster.

While Guardiola’s project in Manchester might be attractive, Barcelona remain the club where Olmo truly belongs. Now is the time for Barça to act before it is too late.
