Maine Celtics guard JD Davison earns 2025 G League MVP honors

Boston Celtics two-way guard JD Davison has been named the G League Most Valuable Player for the 2024-25 season. He joins Tim Frazier as the only other Maine Celtic to win the award.

Davison was the No. 53 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, and has spent much of his time as a professional with the Boston Celtics' developmental team up in Portland. Formerly the Red Claws, the Maine Celtics have been an important pipeline of talent for the parent club in Boston. Luke Kornet, Sam Hauser, and many others started their careers with Maine. Davison has split his time between Maine and Boston, and was present when the team won the 2024 NBA title last June.

While Davison's run with Boston has been limited, he has consistently improved playing for Maine. Davison averaged 25.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game this season, appearing in 30 regular season games with Maine. Team president Brad Stevens spoke glowingly about Davison when the team announced the news in a press release.

“His hard work and team-first attitude from day one with both the Boston and Maine Celtics have led to this achievement,” Stevens said.  “JD has embraced the idea of continuously improving, and we are thrilled for him.”

Davison and the Maine Celtics are back in the G League playoffs for a third consecutive year. They will aim to capture a title after coming up short last spring in the championship round against the Oklahoma City Blue.
