LSU baseball drops series opener vs Auburn as Kade Anderson takes first loss

Watching Friday night's game against Auburn was as fun as stepping on a Lego piece for LSU baseball fans. After sweeping back-to-back SEC series, the Tigers' streak ended as Auburn won game one 8-4.

Coming off of his best start this season, Kade Anderson stepped onto the mound on the Plains and it did not go well for him. Auburn scored six runs in five innings. Auburn held the lead and went wire to wire.

In the bottom of the second inning, Auburn got on the board with a two-RBI double to left-center field that was just out of the reach of Derek Curiel.

LSU could not get anything going offensively and Auburn just kept piling it on. In the bottom of the fifth inning, a three-RBI triple and an RBI single gave Auburn a 6-0 lead after five innings. Auburn scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI off Cooper Williams to make it 7-0.

In the top of the seventh inning, LSU was finally able to get on the board as Curiel hit an RBI groundout and Jared Jones hit a two-RBI double to cut the lead to 7-3.

LSU transfer, Sam Dutton has been the Ace for Auburn all year and he was great for them tonight. Sam pitched six full innings and only allowed three hits on seven strikeouts and two walks.

Anderson's night finished after 4.1 innings where he gave up six runs on six hits, five strikeouts, and one walk. Mavrick Rizy entered the game after Cooper Williams and he pitched two innings and allowed one run on five hits, two strikeouts, and no walks.

In the top of the ninth inning, Chris Stanfield hit a double with two outs and Curiel followed that up with an RBI double to cut the lead to 8-4. That was as close as LSU could come to making a comeback as the good Tigers fell 8-4 in Game One.

With the loss, LSU falls to 31-4 overall and 10-3 in conference play. Game two will be on Saturday night with the first pitch scheduled for 6 PM.
