Live updates, stats: Boston Red Sox host St. Louis on Opening Day in Boston

The Boston Red Sox are playing host for the first time this season.

It’s the 114th Opening Day from Fenway Park as Boston welcomes the St. Louis Cardinals for a three-game set. Providence Journal sports reporter, Bill Koch, is in Boston as the Red Sox aim for a third straight win.

After a slow start against the Texas Rangers, Boston won back-to-back games against the Baltimore Orioles for its first series win of the year. As part of Opening Day’s events, the Red Sox introduced Garrett Crochet as the new ace of the club. Crochet recently inked a six-year, $170 million contract extension to become the face of Boston’s pitching rotation.

“With this contract comes a lot of responsibility,” Crochet said during Friday’s press conference. “I intend to wear the Red Sox uniform for the next several years with honor and respect and be the best player I can be.”

First pitch vs. the Cardinals is slated for 2:10 p.m.
