Late-inning rally lifts Libby over AA Flathead, 7-5

Apr. 4—The Libby Lady Loggers showed some early season horsepower in a thrilling 7-5 comeback win over Class AA Flathead on Tuesday, scoring five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the Bravettes and improve to 2-1 on the season.

Class A Libby, playing up a division, erupted in the seventh to erase a 5-2 deficit. Dakota Allen sparked the late-inning rally with a three-run homer — part of a big day at the plate where she went 2-for-4 with a double as well. Leah Rusdal also chipped in offensively, smacking a triple and going 1-for-3.

Libby opened the game with a run in the first inning before Flathead tied things up in the third. After trading runs, Flathead surged ahead with three runs in the fifth, capitalizing on a few defensive miscues by the Loggers. But Libby stayed composed, and the game turned in the seventh.

Pitcher Carmen Kohler threw a complete game for the Lady Loggers, going all seven innings while striking out seven and walking just three. She scattered nine hits and allowed four earned runs in a steady performance from the circle that kept Libby within striking distance.

Offensively, Madison Vincent also collected two hits for Libby, going 2-for-4. Rachel Kosters and Weslee MacDonald added one hit apiece in the team's seven-hit effort. Kosters drove in a run, while Allen finished with four RBI and MacDonald had two.

Flathead out-hit Libby 9-7, but the Logger defense held firm when it mattered most. Flathead committed four errors in the contest.

The win moves Libby above .500 for the season at 2-1 before moving into Northwest A Conference play. Results from a road game against Columbia Falls on Thursday, April 3, were unavailable at press time for the Western News.
