No. 7 Tennessee (31-7, 6-4 SEC) defeated No. 17 Mississippi (30-9, 6-4 SEC), 8-0 in five innings, Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
The Lady Vols led, 3-0, in the first inning after Kinsey Fiedler hit a two-run home run and Sophia Nugent recorded a RBI single.
Fiedler went 3-for-4. She recoded one home run, four RBIs, one double and one run. Nugent went 2-for-3 and recorded one RBI against the Bulldogs.
McKenna Gibson went 1-for-1, hitting a solo home run for Tennessee, while Emma Clarke went 1-for-1 as she recorded a pinch-hit, two-run double.
Karlyn Pickens pitched a complete game and recorded six strikeouts. She totaled 79 pitches, including 49 strikes.
Tennessee and Mississippi State will conclude its three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday due to impending inclement weather Sunday.
First pitch for game No. 1 is slated for 4 p.m. EDT and will be televised on SEC Network. Game No. 2 will begin at 6:30 p.m. EDT and can be watched on SEC Network+.
