Kraken Blank Canucks in Dominant 5-0 Victory, Deepening Vancouver's Wild Card Struggles

Vancouver, B.C - The Vancouver Canucks' playoff hopes took another significant blow on Wednesday night at Rogers Arena as they were shut out 5-0 by the Seattle Kraken in their final matchup of the season. With every point crucial in their chase for a Wild Card spot, the Canucks' loss marked their third consecutive defeat, leaving them now eight points adrift from a playoff position.

Joey Daccord was the star of the night for Seattle, stopping all 24 shots sent his way to secure his second shutout of the season and the fifth of his NHL career. Despite Vancouver's pressing need for a win, the Canucks couldn't find the back of the net, with their offense sputtering throughout the game.

The Kraken, who were eliminated from playoff contention earlier this week, played with intensity and physicality, making the most of their opportunity to spoil Vancouver’s postseason aspirations. Mikey Eyssimont, recently acquired in a trade from Tampa Bay, was quick to make his presence felt, opening the scoring for Seattle in the first period with a well-placed goal that gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead. Eyssimont, known for his gritty play, has been a force on Seattle's fourth line since joining the team.

Vancouver's struggles continued as Chandler Stephenson doubled the Kraken's lead in the second period with his 12th goal of the season, slipping the puck past Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko. The young and dynamic Shane Wright added another tally for Seattle with a slick wrist shot to make it 3-0, marking his 18th goal of the season.

The Kraken’s dominance didn’t end there. Andre Burakovsky, with assists from Wright and Jared McCann, made it 4-0 in the second period. McCann, who was in on multiple scoring plays, finished the night with three assists.

In the final moments of the game, Adam Larsson extended his points streak and sealed the 5-0 victory with an empty-net goal.

The Kraken, who have been troubled with injuries this season, was missing two key players Jaden Schwartz and Eeli Tolvanen, forcing them to call up Ryan Winterton from the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Winterton, who has played in 18 NHL games with Seattle since last season, made his presence felt in the game despite the team’s depleted lineup.
