While Kalen DeBoer started with the Alabama football players who are limited as spring rolls along, the Crimson Tide coach mentioned an Alabama safety who is out, but is making his way back.
Keon Sabb, who missed the second half of Alabama's season after battling injuries in the Crimson Tide's loss to Tennessee, is working toward a return, DeBoer said Friday.
"We just continue to get the feedback and reports. It's been super positive," DeBoer said. "Even today, another positive report. Probably as positive as we've had. And we expected that. Just exciting for him to be able to get going and keep taking those steps when you get to those benchmarks and going onto the next level. He's on track. He's on pace."
Midway through the second quarter against the Volunteers, Sabb hobbled off the field and had his left leg wrapped. He returned to the game and played 30 snaps overall. He had surgery days later and missed the rest of the season.
"It was quite an injury that he was coming back from," DeBoer said. "The fight, I'm never going to question that ... Last fall, what he worked through and the way he sacrificed himself. The Tennessee game in particular, that two-game stretch there leading up to it, man, got a lot of fight. People respect him. I do too for that."
Sabb finished his first season with Alabama with 39 tackles, two interceptions and four pass deflections in seven games.
Sabb announced Jan. 7 he would return for his senior season.
Alabama will hold its annual A Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium at noon April 12.
