Jimmies softball sweeps Valley City State in Sunday doubleheader

Apr. 13—VALLEY CITY, N.D. — The University of Jamestown softball team started quickly and it helped them get an 8-0 win over Valley City State University on Sunday, April 13, at the Vikings' Softball Complex.

The Jimmies' Kayla Quintanilla hit a two-run triple in the first to push the Jimmies in front 2-0. The score stayed that way until the third when the Jimmies tacked one more and they scored one in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. The Jimmies' Kate Gieszler kept the party going in the fifth with a RBI single and then she executed a double steal in the fifth where she swiped second and Quintanilla swiped home to push the lead out to 6-0.

The Jimmies put the game away in the sixth with homers from Lauren Weigel and Maddie Spaeth to get the eight run win.

Jimmies win game two

The Jimmies held off a Vikings comeback attempt to get an 8-3 win in the second game of the doubleheader between the squads.

The Jimmies (27-12, 11-1) continued to score first, this time with a sacrifice groundout in the opening inning giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.The Jimmies doubled it up in the second when Amanda Burch stole home and then added another one in the third to go up 3-0.

The Jimmies appeared to be on their way to running away with it with another run in the fourth but the Vikings (17-18, 6-6) got off the snide with a solo homer to make it 4-1 and that kickstarted a comeback attempt. In the fifth, the Vikings' Kylee Banerd hit a two-run shot to bring it closer at 4-3. After that, the Jimmies' Abby Blair came in and retired three in a row to get out of trouble.

The Jimmies are back in at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 18, when they host Bellevue.
