Apr. 13—OAKLAND CITY, In. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team could not stop the bleeding in a five-set loss to Oakland City University (25-15, 25-18, 19-25, 23-25, 10-15) on Sunday, April 13, at the Mighty Oaks' Johnson Center.
The Jimmies got off to a 10-4 lead in the first set and they were able to push it all the way out ot 2-11 drawing a Mighty Oaks timeout. The timeout did little to slow the Jimmies down as they were able to get the 25-15 first set win.
The beginning of the second set was tight with the score being tied at nine before the Jimmies responded with a quick run to take a 12-9 lead. After the Mighty Oaks trimmed the Jimmies' lead down to 18-16 and then 21-18, the Jimmies (7-20) finished the set on a 4-0 run to get the 25-18 second set win.
The Mighty Oaks (15-14) got off to a quick start in the third set taking a 9-6 lead before the Jimmies were able to trim the deficit to 12-10. The hosts responded with a run to take an 18-12 lead before the Jimmies fought back to get it closer at 18-16. The Mighty Oaks responded with a run to get the 25-19 third set win and force a fourth set.
The Mighty Oaks were the ones to get off to an incendiary start in the fourth set as they took a 7-2 lead but the Jimmies responded with a run to take a 21-19 lead, drawing a Mighty Oaks timeout. The Oaks bounced back with a run to take a 22-21 lead drawing a Jimmies timeout. The Jimmies responded by tying the set up at 23, but the Oaks finishes the set on a 2-0 run to get the 25-23 fourth set win.
The Mighty Oaks took an early 4-0 lead and they were able to push it all the way out to 11-4 before the Jimmies trimmed the deficit to 13-9. However, it was too little, too late as the Mighthy Oaks got the 15-10 fifth set win.
