Jaguars predicted as a landing spot for veteran free agent CB

If the Jacksonville Jaguars want to further add to their roster in free agency before the NFL draft arrives, who is still available that they might consider signing?

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report recently predicted the landing spots for 10 still available free agents. One of the players on that list was cornerback Rasul Douglas, whom Gagnon paired with the Jaguars.

"Jourdan Lewis is on board, but a desperate Jaguars team needs someone else outside opposite Tyson Campbell," wrote Gagnon. "Douglas fits the bill perfectly. This is a no-brainer if they don’t draft Will Johnson in the top 10."

As Gagnon mentions, there is still a need at cornerback for the Jaguars. With Lewis in the nickel, it does allow Jarrian Jones to move to the boundary. However, there should still be competition for that playing time, especially with not knowing how the move will go for him. General depth is a need here as well.

Since his emergence with the Green Bay Packers during the 2021 season, Douglas has been a very steady presence at cornerback for much of that stretch since. And his presence in the Jaguars' secondary, on what I'm guessing at this stage of the process would be an inexpensive deal, could be valuable, whether that be as a starter or as depth.

But of note, Douglas' production did take a step back last season. His completion rate allowed went from 61% in 2023 to 73% in 2024. He also went from totaling five interceptions and nine pass breakups in 2023 to just three pass breakups in 2024, according to PFF.

I also tend to think that the primary reason this addition might not be in play for the Jaguars. As GM James Gladstone spoke about recently when discussing the overall roster, with 10 draft picks, the Jaguars need room for some rookies to come in and compete, and I could see the cornerback position falling into that category.

There are reasons that this signing does make sense for the Jaguars, but I tend to think that the focus at this time when it comes to further bolstering the roster is no on the NFL draft.
