Issa Rae is feeling secure in her latest role — one that's away from Hollywood!

PEOPLE spoke exclusively to the Insecure co-creator and actress, 40, about her latest business venture at the San Diego FC vs. Los Angeles FC Major League Soccer match in San Diego on Saturday, March 29.

Rae was recently announced as part owner of SDFC along with Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems, and tells PEOPLE working in the sports world is “extremely” different from TV.

“Soccer, what makes it so fun is one, it's a sporting event. It's live, it's active. There's so much. I guess the only similarity [with TV] is the teamwork.”

“You have to be in sync to be able to play the best game, maybe make the best show, but generally it's so lively. So it's competitive in the best way. And while there are moments of competition in the TV world, you don't get to really see who's on top. There's a clear winner in soccer and [with] TV, it's debatable,” Rae tells PEOPLE.
