Huskers surrender eight home runs to fall 16-5 to Oregon State in seven innings

Nebraska (11-15) entered day two of its three-game series with No. 5 Oregon State (20-5) on Saturday. After upsetting the Beavers in game one, the Huskers suffered a massive 16-5 seven-inning defeat in their second clash.

Both teams finished the game with 12 hits on the day, but Oregon State made its strikes count, delivering a ballpark-record eight home runs, resulting in 15 total scores. Nebraska meanwhile struggled, leaving 12 men on base.

Oregon State hit four straight home runs across the first three innings, going up 5-0 before the Huskers got on the board. After an RBI single, the Beavers struck four more home runs in the back half of the game.

Nebraska scored four total runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn't extend the game further, resulting in its conclusion after seven.

Gavin Turley dominated the day for the Beavers, hitting three home runs, including a grand slam, becoming the first Nebraska foe with a three-homer game since Arizona State’s Jeff Larish in the 2005 College World Series.

Tyler Stone finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Devin Nunez hit 2-for-5 with an RBI. Cael Frost delivered a home run for the third consecutive game, while Gabe Swansen had a pinch-hit two-RBI single.

Nebraska and Oregon State conclude the weekend series tomorrow at 12:02 p.m. CT on Big Ten Plus.
