How strong is the 2025 NFL draft class at some of the big positions of need that the Jacksonville Jaguars have?
Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus recently went through each position group in this year's draft class and assigned overall grades to each unit.
With 10 draft picks, the Jaguars are really sitting in a very good spot heading into the draft, and one that gives them quite a bit of flexibility, especially when paired with the additions made in free agency that helped fill some roster holes.
With that many selections, GM James Gladstone can go in a number of different directions and can really let the board dictate what he does rather than trying to reach. Even if he doesn't address a pressing need right away, with that many picks, there will still be other opportunities to do so.
However, while that flexibility is there and allows the Jaguars to adjust as needed, when it comes to how Gladstone may want to attack the draft, positional need and the positional depth of the draft class are two things that go hand-in-hand when it comes to determining how a team may prefer that the draft unfolds.
For example, a position of strength in the class might not actually be one the team attacks early on. Instead, knowing there is depth, the team may wait to tackle that need later on and instead address a position that doesn't have as much depth right away, to ensure they are getting one of the high-end prospects that may be available.
So with that in mind, let's see where the strength of this year's draft class is, since that could be a factor that impacts how the Jaguars go about addressing the needs they have.
Defensive line
PFF's grade for IDL: A-
PFF's grade for DE: A+
These are the two strongest position groups in this year's class, which is good news for the Jaguars, as this is where their biggest need currently is.
With the depth here, there are two ways that we could see the Jaguars go about addressing this need. As we've seen in many mock drafts, they could pick one of the top prospects in this year's draft with the fifth overall pick. Or, as alluded to above, they could pick a different position right away, knowing there will still be quality players available when Jacksonville is back on the clock.
Regardless of which path Gladstone chooses, we should expect the Jaguars to take advantage of the depth by picking multiple players from this position group.
Offensive line
PFF's grade for IOL: C
PFF's grade for OT: B-
I really don't think the aggressiveness that the Jaguars showcased in free agency when it came to adding to the offensive line is going to stop them from continuing to add to this unit in the NFL draft.
The players brought in through free agency help raise the floor of the starting unit, along with the depth as well. However, these also weren't contracts that will impact the Jaguars' long-term approach at the position either. Continuing to add competition should still be a priority, it's just not as urgent now because of those free agent signings, which then provides the aforementioned draft-day flexibility.
