Mar. 31—HELENA — While Glacier's opening track meet didn't result in a ton of team points, Ethan Anderson certainly got off to a flying start.
Anderson, a senior, won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.67 seconds Friday at a triangular meet hosted by Helena Capital, and then won the 300 hurdlers in 39.79. Both times are impressive for March; they sit well below the state qualifying standard and are the fastest in Montana regardless of class.
Helena Capital scored 79 points to win the boys meet. Helena High was next at 56 points and Glacier scored 34.
Helena High won the girls side with 57 points. Capital had 32 and Glacier 26.
Dylan Smith, a senior, provided another Glacier boys highlight with a winning discus throw of 158 feet, 10 inches. Smith also won the shot put.
The Pack's Cole Opre was second in the pole vault to Capitals' Brayden Brisko, who cleared14-6; Opre made 13-6. The state qualifying mark is 13-0.
Spencer Hodge, a Glacier sophomore, won the long jump by a half inch, leaping 19-10.
Among the leaders for Capital was sophomore Dylan Almquist, who clipped through the 100 meters in 11.08.
Glacier's girls were led by sophomore Lauren Bissen, who won the 1,600 in 5:22.37. Only Gallatin's Claire Rutherford (5:14.48) has a faster time this young season.
The Wolfpack's Breanna Barnes cleared 10-0 to win the pole vault; she qualified for the State AA meet in the process. Teammate Addison Brisendine, a freshman, won the 100 hurdles.
Helena had some impressive performances: freshman Quinlyn Simmons swept the 100 (12.51) and 200 (25.99); Madliyn Todorovich won the 400 in a very fast 59.32, and cranked out a personal-record long jump of 17-11.5.
