Former LSU tackle Emery Jones meets with New Orleans Saints ahead of NFL Draft

A former LSU football offensive lineman is catching the eye of the New Orleans Saints with the NFL Draft coming later this month.

According to Nick Underhill, tackle Emery Jones visited the Saints in recent days as New Orleans does its due diligence on draft targets.

Jones was a three-year starter for LSU at right tackle. The four-star recruit was a Freshman All-American in 2022, Second-team All-SEC in 2023, and Second-team All-SEC in 2024. Jones declared early for the draft and opted out of LSU's bowl game vs. Baylor.

Jones was a key member of LSU's historic offense in 2023. The Tigers rushing attack was among the best in the country and quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy.

"Jones gets to lateral landmarks on reach blocks, is fluid getting into space, and can erase rushers looking to flat and corner at the edge," NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein wrote.

Zierlein notes Jones' hands and his ability to skip pull around the corner as a couple of Jones' strengths but wrote Jones needs to develop consistency as a run blocker and "lacks adequate control and balance in the run game."

Jones' NFL Next Gen Stats score was 74, which ranked No. 12 among tackles at the NFL combine.

Jones would bring SEC experience and hometown flavor to the Saints as they look to retool their offensive line under first-year head coach Kellen Moore.

When is the 2025 NFL Draft?

The 2025 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday, April 24 and conclude on Saturday, April 26. The draft will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin, just outside of the Packers' home at Lambeau Field.

The Saints will pick No. 9 overall in the first round.
