FAMU softball, atop the SWAC East, to honor seniors vs Alabama A&M: 'Going to be emotional.'

There’s going to be a Rattler farewell this weekend.

Florida A&M softball hosts Alabama A&M in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series from Friday to Saturday.

The Rattlers and Bulldogs will meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, then at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday at Veronica Wiggins Field. Saturday’s doubleheader is Senior Day for FAMU softball.

“I’m ready for Senior Day. I’ve loved playing softball over the years, but I’m ready to start with a new chapter in my life,” said Brianna Duggins, a senior infielder for the Rattlers.

“Hopefully, I put on a show, and y’all pop out to see us this Saturday.”

Duggins, pursuing nursing school, is one of four seniors who will be honored by FAMU softball alongside Kayla Alexandre, Samantha Smith, and Kiauna Watson on Saturday.

“A lot of my family’s coming, so that’s good. But, it’s going to be emotional,” Smith said.

The quartet of graduating Rattlers is FAMU head coach Brittany Beall’s first senior class.

The first-year coach, hired last September, said the seniors played a significant role in her adaptation to leading the FAMU softball program.

“I’m kind of sad,” Beall said. “Seeing how much they contribute to the team in these short months has been important. I’m excited to celebrate them.”
