RIDGEWOOD – For decades, it has been a house of horrors for girls lacrosse teams around Bergen County.
But on Monday, Immaculate Heart took the short bus ride to Ridgewood, threw the first punch and hung on in a wild finish in another character-defining win.
Powered by six goals from sophomore Liliana Betz, the second-ranked Blue Eagles knocked off No. 1 Ridgewood, 11-10, in the first game for either team. Betz put her team up by scoring on the first two shots on goal and Hoboken transfer Gabriella Tarinelli preserved the lead with back-to-back saves in the final minute after Ridgewood got within one.
IHA became the first Bergen County team to win in Ridgewood this century and backed up their win over the Maroons in last year's county final.
