Dolores Huerta Preparatory baseball to shut down program for the season
On Friday, the athletic director Chris Carrillo announced the Dolores Huerta Preparatory baseball team will not be playing this season.
“DHPH not being able to participate in spring baseball this season is obviously unfortunate," Carrillo said in a statement made to the Chieftain on Friday. "We were coming off one of our most successful baseball seasons this past spring and not having enough participation numbers to compete this spring has been disappointing.
"We are planning to hopefully rally enough student-athletes next year and get DHPH baseball rolling again.”
The team hired a new head coach this year, Shane Smith, but due to players not committing to practice times, the team is not able to field a full team.
Last season, the Scorpions finished 11-13 — their first double-digit winning season since 2018.
