Harry Kane on England’s first game under Thomas Tuchel and reaching 70 international goals

Harry Kane says there was enough in England’s win over Albania to feel excited about what is to come under new boss Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel oversaw a 2-0 win in his first game in charge thanks to goals from debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly and Kane’s 70th goal for his country.

But Kane admits Tuchel was left slightly disappointed despite the victory though says fans should be excited about the future.

“I think he was a little bit disappointed at the end,” Kane said.

“Albania were tough to break down as well. There were spells where they made it difficult and they have got three or four good players that can hurt you as well.

“But we want to keep that enthusiasm and that energy in training this week and with him in the meetings, it’s been at a high, high level.

“I think you saw glimpses of it out there. There were times when we counter pressed really well and kept them pinned in.

“But probably just with the ball there was a few too many slow passes and we didn’t quite get that same pattern of play with the ball.

“But it’s an exciting time. It’s the first building block of a long year and three months before America and we can be happy with how we’ve started.”

Kane extended his record goalscoring tally for England with his second-half strike and says he is enjoying playing for England as much as he did when he made his debut almost ten years ago.

He also says reports suggesting that he felt “underappreciated” despite his incredible record were taken out of context.

“I’m just really happy,” he said. “I think that was taken a little bit out of context, I know there’s a lot of fans that appreciate everything I do and love to see me out there in an England shirt.

“It’s almost ten years since my England debut and I enjoy it as much as I did in the first camp and I love being here at Wembley.

“I feel comfortable in this team and in this environment so whenever I’m out there I want to perform to my highest ability.

“It was a nice finish today. Number 70 is a great achievement to hit but hopefully there’s still a few more to come.”
