At 32 years old, March was a month of ‘firsts’ for the Blyth-born defender, having scored Newcastle United’s first goal at Wembley in 25 years, which help to bring a trophy back to Tyneside for the first time in over 5 decades.
The ‘best month of his career’ was also topped off with a first international cap for England in the World Cup qualifier against Albania.
“I would say it’s definitely been the best month of my career; it will be very hard to top that, but I hope we do. It’s been a great month as a team, and a great month personally. The aim is now to maintain that feeling for the rest of the season”, commented Burn.
Speaking as he collected his first Sela Player of the Month award of the season, the boyhood Magpie said: “This award being voted for by fans definitely makes it a bit more special. I got a couple of these when I first arrived at the club, but it’s been a while. I must be doing something right to receive recognition from the fans and I want to say ‘thank you’ to them for the support.”
After wrapping up Carabao Cup celebrations on the Town Moor last weekend, Burn has set his sights on achieving more success before the end of the season.
He added: “I think we’ve now just got to aim for a Champions League spot; we’ve got a squad that is more than capable enough. It’s going to be hard as there are a lot of teams around us on similar points. Historically, we’ve been pretty good from March onward over the past few seasons, so hopefully it will be more of the same.”
