It's the week before the Masters Tournament and most of the PGA Tour money leaders are taking the week off to rest or prepare for the season's first major championship.
That accounts for the fact that only a dozen players among the top 30 on the money list are in the field this week for the Valero Texas Open, which begins on Thursday at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.
Ludvig Åberg, fourth on the money list with $4,956,223, is the highest-ranked player in the tournament, followed by No. 6 Hideki Matsuyama ($4,464,913) and No. 9 Corey Conners ($3,452,581).
Can anyone catch money leader Rory McIlroy?
Åberg is more than $4 million behind McIlroy and can't catch him by winning the first-place check of $1,710,000. However, he could climb to second with a victory, passing Collin Morikawa and Russell Henley. Matsuyama also can get to second place by winning at San Antonio.
Conners can climb as high as fourth with a victory, provided Åberg misses the cut or makes $206,358 or less.
