Damani Leech supports push for away game NFL throwback uniforms

Great ready for more throwback uniforms.

The NFL announced earlier this week that clubs will be allowed to wear throwback or alternate uniforms up to four games per season beginning in 2025, an increase from the previous limit of three games.

That's great news for the Denver Broncos, who have a wildly popular throwback uniform. Fans still want to see more uniform flexibility, though.

Right now, the Broncos can only wear the home version of their throwback design, which is orange. There's no white jersey for road games.

“Each team still is limited to four options in their closet: home, away, alternate and throwback," team president Damani Leech explained at the NFL's Annual League Meeting in Florida on Monday. "So you still only get those. So our throwback is orange. So you’re limited in that. The issue is that you can now wear one of your alternates or throwbacks four times in the regular season versus the three, and you have flexibility on the helmets.”

Leech was then asked if he would support adding a road throwback uniform to the NFL's permitted rotation.

“Yes, [but] I’m just happy we got the vote we just got," Leech said. "I’ll take that win for now. Maybe in the future we’ll get a little bit more flexibility.”

The NFL is already taking steps in the right direction. Denver can't wear a throwback with white jerseys on the road yet, but the rules could be loosened again in the future. For now, fans will be glad to have another orange throwback game at Empower Field at Mile High in 2025.
