Fikayo Tomori hasn’t featured for AC Milan since mid-February and during today’s press conference, Sergio Conceicao was asked about the lack of playing time for the Englishman.
Tomori’s last appearance was in the Champions League game against Feyenoord, the one away from home, on February 12th. The last league game was four days before that, when he was handed a (controversial) red card in the win against Empoli.
Since then, Conceicao has relied on Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic for the centre-back spots. During the manager’s press conference earlier today, ahead of Napoli-Milan, he was asked about the lack of playing time for Tomori.
Tomori is playing very little. Do Thiaw and Gabbia give you more guarantees?
“It depends on the cycles, on the form. I have four central defenders in whom I have great faith,” he stated.
While it’s true that the other centre-backs have done very well, it feels a bit strange that Tomori hasn’t played a single minute since mid-February. A departure in the summer seems likely but of course, the new sporting director and head coach will make the final decision in that sense.
For tomorrow’s game against Napoli, it looks like Gabbia and Thiaw will be the chosen ones again.
