Commanders cornerback switching numbers for 2025

Marshon Lattimore will look a bit different in 2025. Lattimore, acquired in a midseason trade from the New Orleans Saints, appeared in two regular-season games for the Washington Commanders after the trade. He was dealing with a hamstring at the time of the trade.

Next season, Lattimore will switch his No. 23 to his old number from his college days at Ohio State: No. 2. Wide receiver Dyami Brown wore No. 2 over the past four seasons, but Brown departed in free agency, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Commanders hope Lattimore regains his previous form next season. While he only played two regular-season games, Lattimore started all three postseason games, but struggled. Overall, the hamstring injury cost Lattimore eight games between his two teams in 2024.

Still just 28, Lattimore, a four-time Pro Bowler, enters his ninth NFL season in 2025. He is under contract for two more seasons. General manager Adam Peters expressed confidence in Lattimore at his end-of-the-season press conference.

"Anytime you come into a new team, and you're injured, it's really hard to integrate," Peters said. "And plus, you're coming in at the end of the season, so at the same time you're rehabbing, you're learning a new defense, you're trying to meet new teammates. And so, it was a tough situation for him to come in. But what was cool was we saw him get better and we saw him get more acclimated not only to the defense, but to his teammates."

In addition to wearing No. 2 at Ohio State, Lattimore wore the number during his high school years at Glenville High in Cleveland, where he was a star cornerback and wide receiver.
