Commanders are standing out for local wide receiver draft prospect

The Washington Commanders could keep a local Virginia native close to home by selecting him in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Maryland wide receiver Tai Felton spoke to the media on Friday after his pro day workouts, and mentioned the Commanders as a team that has stood out to him the most throughout his draft process. Felton was born in Ashburn, Virginia, and later decided to stay local by committing to the University of Maryland to continue his football career. The Commanders could continue the trend for the talented wide receiver, while adding another weapon to their offense.

After adding Deebo Samuel to the wide receiver room this off-season, Felton could be the next piece to replace Dyami Brown, who signed with the Jaguars in free agency. Felton excels with his precise route running and explosiveness to help create separation against defenders. The play-making wide receiver finished with 1,124 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns in his final season with the Terrapins, with an average of 11.7 yards per reception.

Felton's Draft Stock Rising

Felton has improved his draft stock this offseason with impressive showings at both the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine. The former Maryland WR found the endzone in Mobile, Alabama, during the 2025 Reese's Senior Bowl All-Star game after a week of practice against the best draft prospects in the country. Felton then continued his tour of showing off his skill sets to NFL teams by standing out among the wide receiver group at the NFL combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tai Felton is currently being regarded as a late Day 2 to early Day 3 prospect in the NFL Draft. With his stock increasing as we approach the draft, he could be in play for the Commanders at pick 128. The Commanders could add the 22-year-old draft hopeful to a talented veteran wide receiver room while continuing to build the younger core of the roster.
