The Washington Commanders continue to make impressive moves under the new regime, this time hiring New England Patriots legend Wes Welker to the staff, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Wes Welker, who was in the news last week as a worthy nominee for the Patriots Hall of Fame (672 catches over 6 regular seasons + another 69 in playoffs), is in the news again this week.

Welker, the former Dolphins WRs coach, has landed on the Commanders staff, per sources.
Welker is joining the Commanders as a personnel analyst and will work with the personnel and coaching staff. GM Adam Peters is reuniting with the former WR great. Welker was a wide receiver coach with the 49ers from 2019-2021 while Peters was the assistant. GM. Welker then went on to coach the Miami Dolphins wide receivers over the last three seasons.
This is a very notable move, as Wes Welker brings a lot of playing and coaching experience to the staff to help develop Washington's wide receiver room, including the development of second-year wide receiver Luke McCaffrey. Welker was also noted as the person who trained with Deebo Samuel for his first three seasons in the league in San Francisco.
Kliff Kingsbury and Wes Welker were teammates at Texas Tech University from 2000-2002. Now, Welker will work with the Commanders' offensive coordinator to take their offense to the next level in 2025.
