Apr. 5—CANTON — St. Lawrence University starting pitchers David Zulsdorf and Boden Driscoll provided strong mound outings as the Saints allowed two runs total in a sweep of the University of Rochester in a Liberty League baseball doubleheader Friday at Tom Fay Field.
St. Lawrence (8-12, 4-5) won the first game 2-1 and claimed the second 6-1.
Zuhlsdorf pitched the first seven innings in the first game, allowing five hits and no earned runs. Brendan Karadenes pitched two innings of relief and received the win, allowing two hits and striking out two.
Brett Federico, who went 3-for-4 and stole a base, drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with a single that scored Mike Siano. Mike Davis added an RBI single for the Saints.
Colby Cruser went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Rochester (9-11, 4-5)
In the second game, Driscoll also went seven innings and allowed five hits. He allowed one earned run, struck out six and walked one en route to the win. John Gannon went 2-for-5 and capped St. Lawrence's five-run sixth inning with a two-run single.
Davis again drove in a run with a single, and Sean Desjardins and Eion Morrissey also singled and drove in a run. Federico added two hits.
HOBART 3-3, CLARKSON 2-4
Clarkson rallied from a late loss in the first game to claim a one-run win in the second game in a Liberty League doubleheader split against Hobart in Geneva.
The Golden Knights (9-9, 3-5) scored two runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles from pinch-hitter David Harris and Beau Vardin to rally from a 3-2 deficit and prevail 4-3. Relief pitchers Dan Horowitz and Nathan Hartley combined to pitch five straight no-hit, no-run innings and strike out 10 with Horowitz getting the win and Hartley the save.
In the first game, the Statesmen (13-7, 4-4) rallied for three runs in the eighth inning and scored the winning run on a double steal as Connor Schmiedlin stole second and Christian Petry raced home from third. Cam Jerrett went 2-for-3 with a double for Clarkson. James Mason was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
SUNY ONEONTA 7-13, SUNY CANTON 1-2
Ryan Cronin hit a two-run home run in a four-run third inning in the first game and went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the second game as the Red Dragons swept a SUNYAC doubleheader from the Kangaroos in Oneonta.
Josh Gilkey delivered a two-run double in the third inning for Oneonta in the 7-1 first-game win. Joey Dwyer went 2-for-4 with a triple and Nick Jacoby was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Red Dragons (14-6-1, 5-0).
Kyle Roper did not allow a hit for seven innings and finished with a two-hitter through eight innings with eight strikeouts. Derek Maldanado led SUNY Canton with an RBI single.
In the second game, Logan Hutter went 4-for-4 with three RBIs for Oneonta in its 13-2 victory. Jacoby was 2-for-2 with a two-run double. Anthony Foglia also hit a two-run single and Dwyer doubled in a run. Zachary Rowe pitched the win, allowing four hits and two runs in six innings.
Bradley Mills went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Roos (3-13, 0-5), and Chris McLean hit a double.
SOFTBALL
SUNY POTSDAM 8-3, PLATTSBURGH STATE 7-8
Danielle Moscarello finished off a sixth-inning comeback with a double down the line that drove in the eventually winning run as the Bears beat the Cardinals in the first game of a SUNYAC doubleheader split in Potsdam.
SUNY Potsdam won the first game 8-7 and lost the second game 8-3.
The Bears (7-6, 1-1) scored six runs in the sixth inning for the comeback victory after the Cardinals (4-9, 1-1) scored five runs in the fifth inning.
Kaylee Dobransky went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and tied the game with a two-run single in the sixth. Alexys Rosick added three hits and an RBI double for the Bears. Kaylee LaForest went 2-for-3 and Kiara Lovejoy tripled.
