Cincinnati Bearcats basketball adds power forward Jaylen Haynes from George Mason

Jaylen Haynes, a 6-foot-8, 260-pound power forward from George Mason committed to the Cincinnati Bearcats Saturday, April 12.

On the day of the Cincinnati Bearcats football scrimmage, Wes Miller's UC basketball team picked up a player that could pass for an offensive lineman.

UC has picked up a commitment from 6-foot-8, 260-pound George Mason transfer forward Jaylen Haynes whose nickname is “Big Slime”.

Haynes averaged 14.1 points and 6.9 rebounds for the Patriots of the Atlantic 10 and had five double-doubles this past season. He had 25 points and 10 rebounds Dec. 3 vs. UNC-Asheville and also reached 25 points in a Feb. 26 game with Fordham. Haynes shot 55.5% from the field. Against then-No. 5 Duke in December he scored 18 points and had seven rebounds.

In 2023-24 he averaged 14.6 points per game and 6.4 rebounds for East Tennessee State with a high game of 27 points and four double-doubles. As a freshman, he played nine games at Virginia Tech.

Haynes visited UC April 11-12.
