Central Kitsap softball player Savvy Paulson and Klahowya baseball player Carson Langguth are the Kitsap Sun athletes of the week for March 31-April 5, selected by readers in an online poll. Athletes are nominated by their respective coaches and the top vote-getters for both girls and boys sports are declared the winners.
Paulson helped the Cougars win three games by going 7-for-10 at the plate with nine RBI. She also pitched eight innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and three walks while striking out 11. Paulson collected 486 votes. Other nominees for girls sports were Olympic's Kennedy Haas (373 votes) and South Kitsap softball Kelsie Hynek (237 votes).
Langguth batted 7-for-12 to help the Eagles three victories. On the mound, he pitched a complete-game in an 11-1 win over Chimacum, allowing no earned runs and one hit while striking out 11. He collected 141 votes. The other nominee for boys sports was Bainbridge's Will Rohrbacher (71 votes).
With most sports teams/athletes off for spring break, the next Kitsap Sun athlete of the week poll will appear online April 16.
