Browns bring home Cleveland native Jerome Baker to help with linebacker depth
CLEVELAND — The Browns are bringing in some veteran help at linebacker. They're also bringing a Cleveland native back home.
A league source confirmed for the Beacon Journal that the Browns are signing former Benedictine High School and Ohio State University product Jerome Baker. Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot was the first to report.
Baker, who was in for a visit on Thursday, is more help at a position the Browns are desperately in need of veteran help with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah's future up in the air because of the neck injury he sustained in Week 8 last year against the Baltimore Ravens. Outside of Jordan Hicks and Devin Bush, most of their linebackers are still in their first three years of pro experience.
Baker split time between the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans last year, playing in five games for each with five starts in Seattle and three in Tennessee. He had two combined sacks, a fumble forced, a fumble recovered and two tackles for loss in those games.
Originally a 2018 third-round pick of the Miami Dolphins, Baker has played 104 career games with 90 starts over seven seasons, six of those with the Dolphins. He has 24.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, five interceptions and 33 tackles for loss in his career.
The Browns re-signed Bush after previously signing him to a one-year deal a year ago. That's the only other linebacker they've brought in to this point in the offseason.
