Shedeur Sanders the 'most likely scenario' for the Cleveland Browns at No. 2 overall
There is a real possibility that former Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders becomes the No. 2 overall pick in next month's NFL draft.
According to Cleveland Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the trails connecting Shedeur Sanders to the Browns are heating up. She reports that the Browns speak very highly of Sanders and that drafting him at No. 2 overall is the most likely scenario.
If true, that would be a significant win for Sanders, who has seen his draft stock dip. Multiple reports project him to slide down the first round. The Browns would be a fascinating destination, considering Deshaun Watson's bloated salary is still on the books. They have been active in the veteran quarterback market, signing Kenny Pickett and being linked to Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins.
“They’ve spoken so highly of Shedeur Sanders, and Sanders has left such a trail of Browns’ breadcrumbs, that it still seems to me that drafting him at No. 2 overall is the most likely scenario,” Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot said. pic.twitter.com/ON0achSl4L

Sanders would be a selection for the future, and with the Browns seemingly willing to part with Watson, the Colorado quarterback might take over the starting gig sooner rather than later.
Pickett said in his introductory press conference that the Browns will give him a chance to compete for the starting quarterback position, which confirms that the position is open for a possible rookie.
In his two seasons at Colorado, Sanders completed 71.8% of his passes for 7,364 yards while throwing 64 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions. His 2024 season was especially memorable as Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns while averaging a Big 12-best 8.7 yards per attempt. He finished eighth in the Heisman voting and was the Big 12 Player of the Year and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner.
Sanders and several other Buffaloes will hope to hear their name called in Green Bay, Wisconsin, when the 2025 NFL draft commences April 24-26.
