The Denver Broncos want to play an international game in 2025.
The Broncos are candidates to play as a "road" team in Berlin (against the Indianapolis Colts) or London (against the New York Jets) this fall. Damani Leech, the team's president, said at the NFL's Annual League Meeting on Monday that Denver's first choice would be to play in Germany with England as a second choice.
“On the Berlin side, I’d personally say I was surprised [that] Sean [Payton] really vocalized his interest in playing in Germany," Leech explained. "I think some of that goes back to [that] he likes to travel, I think he likes the team being alone-ish together and what that does from a culture standpoint with the team. He likes the idea of being first and playing in a city like Berlin for the first time in the NFL regular season.
"Selfishly, with my international background, I love the international games. I think they’re special — not just for the teams that are playing — but I think they’re special for the league overall where we are now and where we can be going.”
There have been rumblings that Denver will be Indy's opponents for the Berlin game, but Leech noted that nothing has been finalized yet. The Broncos are willing, though, and they could end up playing in Deutschland this fall.
