Arizona Cardinals matched with free agent WR Amari Cooper
More than a week into NFL free agency in 2025, and most of the biggest names have already signed deals or agreed to terms. However, there are a few bigger-name free agents available, especially at wide receiver.
The Arizona Cardinals have not done much at receiver. They re-signed Zay Jones, used a restricted free agent tender on Greg Dortch and added former Los Angeles Chargers and Dallas Cowboys wideout Simi Fehoko.
An article for NFL.com took the best remaining free agents available and connected them to the team that would be their perfect match.
The Cardinals were a perfect match for veteran receiver Amari Cooper.
This was the most difficult player to place with a team, because Cooper has entered unenviable territory: He is a veteran receiver who likes playing for a contender but might not fit in with all of them. Just look at his Bills tenure. Cooper arrived as a highly touted in-season addition, caught a touchdown pass in his first game with Buffalo, then faded out of the rotation. He finished with 32 targets in eight games -- 21 less than he saw in six games with the Browns last season. If he can't make a difference in an offense led by NFL MVP Josh Allen, where can he? This is why it comes down to fit, and while I'd like to send every receiver to Seattle, Cleveland or Las Vegas, none of them felt quite right for Cooper. Let's instead move him to Arizona, where he can get open for Kyler Murray and become the trusted, experienced target Murray needs on third down. He might be able to help Marvin Harrison Jr. get his trajectory on a better track, too.
Cooper would make a nice addition and would certainly be an upgrade over Jones, Fehoko, Dortch or even Michael Wilson. He would be great for Harrison, although his trajectory is fine after a solid rookie season.
But when Cooper Kupp got $15 million a year to sign with Seattle, how much is Cooper looking for? The Cardinals do believe in Wilson and, while Cooper would be a great addition, he is 31 years old, and at that age, many receivers take a precipitous drop in production.
While he would match the Cardinals' need, it seems unlikely they would target him.
