Arizona Cardinals could target former Patriots LB Ja'Whaun Bentley

The Arizona Cardinals have addressed the inside linebacker position with a pair of free agent signings, adding Akeem Davis-Gaither and Mykal Walker. But a more experienced option to be the Cardinals' starting Mike linebacker is available, one who general manager Monti Ossenfort has ties to.

The New England Patriots released linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley in a salary cap-saving move.

Bentley played in only two games last season, suffering a season-ending torn pectoral muscle. The 28-year-old former team captain was a starter for New England since 2020. Before 2024, he had three consecutive seasons of at least 100 total tackles.

Bentley was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round in 2018. At that time, Ossenfort was the director of scouting.

While Davis-Gaither is expected to be the starter but has not been a full-time starter in his career other than in the case of an injured starter. Bentley, if healthy, would be productive and give the leadership the Cardinals need.
