All-County Boys Indoor Track & Field: Boonsboro's Jones, a state champ, is athlete of year
Here are The Herald-Mail's 2024-25 All-Washington County Boys Indoor Track & Field selections:
Derrick Jones, Sr., Boonsboro
Athlete of the Year
Jones won the Class 1A state high jump title with his best performance of the season, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches. That tied for the top performance in the event in the county, and tied for eighth-best in the state across all classes.
All-Washington County First Team
Felix Annan, Sr., South Hagerstown
Annan tied for the top performance in the county in the 55 (6.69 seconds) and ranked fourth in the 300 (37.91).
Nick Cullember, Sr., Clear Spring
Cullember had the top performance in the county in the shot put (46-6) and won county and 1A West titles in the event. He earned bronze in Class 1A at states.
Jakob Davidson, Sr., Boonsboro
Davidson ranked No. 2 in the 3,200 (9:50.17) and No. 4 in the 1,600 (4:35.77) in the county. He won Central Maryland Conference small-school and 1A West titles in the 3,200 before taking bronze in the event in Class 1A at states.
Jacob Faith, Sr., Clear Spring
Faith tied Jones for the county's top performance in the high jump (6-4). He won county and 1A West titles in the event and took silver in Class 1A at states.
Luke Gentzel, So., Smithsburg
Gentzel was the county's top performer in the 500 (1:09.64) and ranked second in the 800 (2:03.83). He won the CMC small-school title in the 500, finished second in the 1A West 500 and the county and CMC small-school 800, and was fifth in the 800 and seventh in the 500 in Class 1A at states.
Bradley Helman, Sr., North Hagerstown
Helman ranked third in the county in the 3,200 (9:59.65) and was fifth in the 1,600 (4:36.57). He won the county title in the 3,200 and placed second in the CMC large-school 1,600.
Dylan Herbst, So., Smithsburg
Herbst was the county's top performer in the 1,600 (4:33.10) and ranked sixth in the 3,200 (10:03.17). He won the CMC small-school title in the 1,600 and took second in 1A West before claiming bronze in Class 1A at states in the event.
Walker Mason, Jr., North Hagerstown
Mason was the county's top performer in the 3,200 (9:46.99) and ranked third in the 1,600 (4:35.05) and 800 (2:05.61). He won the CMC large-school 3,200 title, was the county runner-up in the 1,600 and third in the county 800, and also finished third in 3A West in the 3,200.
Jay McConnaughey, So., Clear Spring
McConnaughey tied for the county's top performance in the 55 (6.69). He won the CMC small-school 55 title, was third in 1A West and finished seventh in Class 1A at states.
Cadyn Nesbitt, So., Smithsburg
Nesbitt was the county's top performer in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet to finish fifth in Class 1A at states. He was the county champion and finished third in 1A West.
Gabe Ohaegbu, Sr., North Hagerstown
Ohaegbu ranked second in the county in the 55 hurdles (7.96). He won the Dickinson College Invitational title, finished second in the county and 3A West, and placed eighth in Class 3A at states.
Richard Sanon, Sr., Williamsport
Sanon was the county's top performer in the 55 hurdles (7.75). He won county and 2A West titles in the event before taking silver in Class 2A for the second straight year at states.
Michael Wynkoop, Jr., Smithsburg
Wynkoop ranked second in the 1,600 (4:33.12) and fourth in the 3,200 (10:01.38) in the county. He won the county title in the 1,600, finished second in the 3,200 in the county, CMC small-school and 1A West meets, and placed fourth in the 1,600 and fifth in the 3,200 in Class 1A at states.
Tyler Younker, Sr., Smithsburg
Younker was the county's top performer in the 800 (2:03.08) and ranked fourth in the 500 (1:11.66). He won county and CMC small-school titles in the 800, and finished second in the CMC small-school 500 and the 1A West 800.
