The Chargers open up the 2025 regular season in Brazil, where they could face their AFC West rival.
According to The Athletic's Nate Taylor and Daniel Popper, they indicated that the Chiefs have become the favorite to play the Bolts on Friday, September 5, at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The report also stated Los Angeles and Kansas City are not opposed to the idea of the opening-week AFC West battle.
On playing international games, we’re willing to do it whenever the opportunity presents itself. We don’t have a lot of control over that, except periodically with whatever the [international] rotation of the league is at where we can be the home team.
We make the league aware every year that we would be delighted to play [internationally], whether as a home team or as an away team. We hope, at some point, we’ll get picked back up.
The official announcement of the Chargers’ Brazil opponent will likely be made well before the rest of the NFL schedule is unveiled next month.
The game is expected to be televised by a streaming service — Amazon, Disney+, Netflix, Paramount+ or Peacock.
