2025 in-state point guard prospect could be an option for Michigan State basketball

Michigan State basketball saw a slew of transfers enter the transfer portal to open the month of April. The Spartans saw Tre Holloman, Gehrig Normand and Xavier Booker hit the portal, leaving some glaring holes in the rotation.

One major hole the Spartans have seen open up within the roster and rotation is the backup point guard spot, and ball handling guards in general. Jeremy Fears Jr. is the only player that is returning to the roster that has had the role of ball handler. While Kur Teng may take shooting guard minutes, he certainly is not a ball handler.

With Fears being the only player on the roster with ball handling experience, you would have to think Tom Izzo will hit the portal for 2-3 replacements, but obviously, that is something Izzo won't be thrilled about doing.

There is a way, though, for Izzo to avoid having to go into the portal for all of those spots. A power conference point guard prospect resides in his home state in the 2025 recruiting class.

Macari Moore, a native of Ann Arbor, attending Ann Arbor Huron High School, was committed to Iowa State for almost a year, before reopening his recruitment. He is currently a 3-star ranked as the No. 164 player and the No. 17 point guard in the nation. He holds offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Louisville, Toledo and Western Michigan.

During his senior year with the River Rats, Moore averaged 19.5 points per game to go along with 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.5 steals. He did this all with a 68% overall Effective Field Goal Percentage (EFG%) to go along with shooting 67% from two-point range, 47% from three-point range and 83% from the free-throw line. He was 2025 Michigan Mr. Basketball finalist.

A 6-foot-3, 200 pound point guard, Moore would be a nice late addition to the class, especially after some roster turmoil opened up spots.
