2025 Draft: Cowboys snag explosive SEC WR in PFF's latest mock
After the recent surge of free agent moves, the Dallas Cowboys, who filled several key positions with short-term signings and a few trades, still need another playmaker in the passing game. Dallas' lone addition at WR was veteran Parris Campbell, who signed a one-year deal as a free agent on March 15.
The Cowboys have seen a revolving door of No. 2 options at WR over the past few seasons. The most recent, veteran Brandin Cooks, who had been with the team for the past two years, recently departed Dallas and signed with the New Orleans Saints in free agency.
Based on the Cowboys' approach, the upcoming draft could be the direction the team heads toward adding another weapon. Pro Football Focus analyst Josh Liskiewitz has Dallas selecting Missouri standout WR Luther Burden III with the No. 12 pick in his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. The selection of the SEC wideout would finally give Dallas a young complementary option to pair with All-Pro WR CeeDee Lamb.
12. Dallas Cowboys: WR Luther Burden III, Missouri
“Burden accounted for 50 explosive receptions, and 54 forced missed tackles after the catch over the past two years. Burden is an ideal “five-tool,” multi-sport athlete for the receiver position in the NFL. The first-round talent is as well-rounded as they come, displaying the ability to succeed at any receiver spot in any offense.”
Luther Burden III Scouting Report.
Despite standing just 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, it's clear why the SEC talent is considered a first-round selection. His speed and acceleration enable him to evade defenders and maintain separation. With his strong route running and playmaking ability, he adds another threat for QB Dak Prescott, thanks to his skill in tracking and adjusting to passes downfield. Additionally, he provides the offense with a player capable of gaining significant yardage after the catch.

A two-time First-Team All-SEC selection in 2023 and 2024, Burden played in 38 games across three seasons for the Tigers and recorded 192 receptions for 2,263 yards and 21 touchdowns. In 2023, he led Missouri with 83 receptions for 1,197 yards and eight touchdowns. His versatility was displayed during his career, having recorded a punt return touchdown in his 2022 freshman year, and rushing for 234 yards and four touchdowns during his three seasons.
A native of St. Louis, Burden received a total of 41 scholarship offers and chose Missouri over Alabama and Georgia as his final three options, and became just the fourth consensus five-star recruit that the Tigers had signed in the past 20 years.
