Matthew Golden to the Cowboys? New Mock Draft has former Longhorns WR landing in Dallas
According to NFL Draft guru Todd McShay, former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden will be staying close to home once he's a pro. McShaw believes Golden will be taken with the No. 12 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.
Golden's stock skyrocketed at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis after running the fasted 40-yard dash of any wide receiver in the draft.
The University of Houston also had a huge postseason for the Longhorns with 162 receiving yards against Georgia in the SEC championship game and 149 yards against Arizona State in the College Football Playoff, highlighted by a game-trying touchdown grab on 4th and 13 in overtime. Golden led Texas with 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season.
Todd McShay has the #Cowboys drafting Matthew Golden (WR, Texas) at 12:

“Drafting Golden to pair with CeeDee Lamb would give Dak Prescott the playmakers he needs to carry this offense in the fall. Golden was the fastest WR at the combine and second-fastest player, but he’s not… pic.twitter.com/FjKhhP8ULx
Golden was busy at the combine, reportedly meeting with the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots. Earlier this week, the Houston native met with the Texans.

McShaw thinks Golden is a perfect counterpart to current Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb.
“Drafting Golden to pair with CeeDee Lamb would give Dak Prescott the playmakers he needs to carry this offense in the fall. Golden was the fastest WR at the combine and second-fastest player, but he’s not just a burner. He’s an unbelievably crisp route runner whose ability to drop his weight on intermediate breaks at his top-speed is a lot of fun to watch on tape. Add his pension for contorting his body to make difficult catches to the equation, and that’s why I securely have Golden sitting at WR1 on my draft board." - The McShay Report
The NFL Draft will run from Thursday, Apr 24, 2025 to Saturday, Apr 26, 2025.
