Tim Kaine wins reelection in Virginia
Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine (D) won his reelection bid Tuesday, fending off a challenge from Republican Hung Cao, Decision Desk HQ projected.
Cao, who also ran for Congress in 2022, faced an uphill climb against Kaine.
The incumbent led his GOP challenger in the polls ahead of Election Day. The Hill/DDHQ's polling average showed Kaine leading Cao, who was backed by former President Trump, with 52.2 percent support to 42.4 percent. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rated the race as “solid Democratic.”
Kaine has worked in Virginia politics for decades, serving as the mayor of Richmond, lieutenant governor and governor. He was also formerly the chair of the Democratic National Committee.
The Virginia senator also made headlines in the final days of the campaign, appearing as a guest on NBC’s "Saturday Night Live."
