Jenna Bush Hager on dad's inauguration looks: 'He was actually very well-behaved'

Former President George W. Bush's animated expressions raised eyebrows online Monday, but Jenna Bush Hager says her father was "actually very well-behaved" at President Trump's inauguration.

The "Today" co-host opened up on the NBC morning show Tuesday about what it's like to watch her parents at high-profile events such as the inauguration.

"You know when you're watching your kids' holiday concert or whatever, and — if we're honest — you don't really care about the whole scene? You're just zooming in right on your kid? That's a little bit about how we watch an inauguration in my family, and what's happening with the parents," Hager, the former president's 43-year-old daughter, told guest co-host Scarlett Johansson.

"He goes viral for basically anything. He didn't do anything," Hager exclaimed.

Cameras captured the 43rd president winking, grinning with wide eyes and making other faces — which Hager described as including a "smile and goofy expression" — at the inauguration at the Capitol.

"That's what his face looks like. That's his face," Hager told Johansson, before reflecting on her father's friendship with former President Obama, who also attended the inaugural ceremony.

"I just love when they're together. They've become unusual friends," Hager said of the across the aisle relationship. Bush was seen at the funeral for President Carter earlier this month playfuly giving a belly tap to Obama.

"They're pals," Hager said of the ex-Democratic and Republican commanders in chief.

"I think it shows that, even in divisive times, that we have so much more that unites us," she said.
