Yankees add veteran Adam Ottavino to their bullpen

NEW YORK - Yankees closer Devin Williams was placed on the paternity list Tuesday, and the organization has re-signed an old friend.

Veteran right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino is back in the Yankees' bullpen, signed to a big-league contract prior to a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Ottavino, 39, spent spring training with the Boston Red Sox but exercised his opt out on March 23, becoming a free agent.

A New York native who pitched with the Mets over the last three seasons, Ottavino posted a 4.34 ERA in 60 appearances in 2024, limiting right-handed batters to a .199 (27-for-136) batting average.

Ottavino was previously in the Yanks' bullpen from 2019-2020, posting a 2.76 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 97 games, covering 84.2 innings.

To add the 14-year MLB veteran on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-hander JT Brubaker (fractured ribs) to the 60-day injured list.
