Adam Ottavino back with Yankees on major league contract, Devin Williams placed on paternity list

Adam Ottavino is headed back to the Bronx.

The Yankees on Tuesday signed the 39-year-old reliever to an MLB contract and added him to the active roster.

This is the second stint with the Yankees for Ottavino, a New York City native, who pitched to a 2.76 ERA over 97 appearances with the organization from 2019-20.

The Yankees sent the right-handed Ottavino to the Boston Red Sox before the 2021 season in a rare trade between the rivals.

He spent the past three seasons with the Mets and had a 4.34 ERA in 60 games last year.

Ottavino had signed a minor-league contract with Boston this offseason before opting out last month. He surrendered six runs in five innings this spring.

On Tuesday, the Yankees also placed closer Devin Williams on the paternity list.

They made room for Ottavino on the 40-man roster by moving JT Brubaker (fractured ribs) to the 60-day injured list.
