Are you ready for the 2025 RIIL softball season? Well now it’s time to show it.
The season officially started late last week, but Monday is when things really start to get rolling. It’ll take some time for the weather to warm up, but you expect plenty of the state’s best players to bring the heat from Day 1.
This week the Providence Journal will roll out our softball previews, with a breakdown of what to look for in all three divisions and 10 players from each division to keep an eye out for this spring.
We also figured out a way to get the state’s softball communities to show their support for their stars – by letting you, the readers, vote for the Providence Journal Preseason Player of the Year.
Going over rosters for the state’s 44 teams, the Journal found who we think could be the 20 most productive and impactful players in RIIL softball this season. Many are returning First and Second-Team All Staters and others are stars on teams that look to be championship favorites this spring. It’s not just a list of Division I players either; there’s representation from all three divisions.
We’ll leave the rest up to you. To vote, check out the ballot below and pick your favorite. You can vote as often as you’d like from now until the poll closes on Friday, April 4 at 11:59 p.m..
What does the winner receive? Clout.
The award is designed to be an interactive way for the state’s passionate softball communities to show support for local players. We want schools, teams and players to create social media campaigns to garner support and try to earn as many votes as possible for their nominee. When a player wins, the whole community does – because it shows which pockets of the state truly support high school softball.
So cast your vote – and maybe do it a few times – share the link to this story to everyone and show just how passionate your community is about high school softball!
